There’s a New Pie in Town

“There’s a New Pie in Town” as the Ohio Valley Pizza Company brings the Original 1945 Square Cut Pizza to the South Town District of Medina, Ohio.

Medina, Ohio – Local family announces plans for the launch of a new pizza shop in the South Town District of Medina, Ohio.  Ohio Valley Pizza Company will be open Summer of 2020 for take-out, curbside and delivery services and will feature the Original 1945 Square Cut Pizza, known by many as “Steubenville-Style” pizza.   Business owners, Dave and Amy Byers, insisted on bringing this very style of pizza to their hometown of Medina, Ohio.

Dave grew up on the Ohio River where his Friday night family go-to pizza was “Square Cut” Pizza. David’s family frequented hot spots like DiCarlo’s and Jax and so introduced Amy to the “back home” treat when they began dating in 2007.  Dave remembers waiting with his parents in the lobby of these pizza shops as a kid, “they always seemed to be having so much fun, the guy working the oven announced ‘HOT PIZZA’ as another pie was ready to be dressed with that cold cheese and pepperoni” he said with a smile.  Dave explained “I was amazed at how many of our closest and best friends, right here in Medina, were familiar with the square cut pizza, whether from West Virginia, Pennsylvania, or Ohio, they knew exactly what we wanted to do here and they were so excited about the possibility of bringing it to Medina.”

Amy added “Growing up making pizza with my grandmother, I couldn’t think of anything better to bring to our community – a little slice of our lives we can share with our hometown.  I am so proud to be part of a community like Medina that has supported small food shops and local businesses, like this one, during the current crisis.”

Dave and Amy, don’t mess around, they went right to the source when looking to bring this Ohio Valley Pizza to Medina.  The tradition behind this unique pizza was brought to the states by the creator of the Original 1945 Square Cut Pizza, Primo DiCarlo, and continues on with his son, Mike DiCarlo, who still has several shops in Ohio & West Virginia.  Working the ovens every day at Dicarlo’s Original Pizza, Mike required of this new legacy shop; tradition, quality ingredients and passion, “Ya gotta Love it” Mike said.   Dave & Amy see this in the heart and soul, and friendly faces that Mike, and his wife, Gretchen, greet throughout the day – order after order, slice after slice and tray after tray.

Dave and Amy fell in love with their new friendship with Mike & Gretchen about as quickly as they fell in love with this square cut deliciousness.  It wasn’t long before Ohio Valley Pizza Company was born, and plans of tradition, through pizza, were realized.
